Care For Your New Pug Puppy

Feed Requirements

A mixture of good quality puppy dry food and chicken mince or lamb mince (add some hot water to take off the chill). Once a week, add a good teaspoon of oil (vegetable or olive) to food. At least twice a week feed RAW chicken necks or wings. NEVER FEED YOUR PUG COOKED BONES OF ANY DESCRIPTION.

ALWAYS HAVE PLENTY OF FRESH WATER FOR PUPPY TO DRINK (INDOORS AND OUTDOORS).

Feed 4 times a day to 3 months, 3 times a day until 6 months, 2 times a day until 12 months. Once a day after, 1 year of age.

When cutting back from 4 to 3 meals increase food amount in the three meals to make up for the loss of the fourth meal, continue this as dog grows and you cut back meals.

Worm fortnightly until 14 weeks of age and then quarterly 1st January, 1st April, 1st June, & 1st September.

GROOMING REQUIREMENTS

A good brush once a week for 5 to 10 minutes should keep the puppy’s coat in good condition.

When giving your pug a bath, use a tea tree oil based shampoo and ensure dog is well dried and kept free of draughts after. (do not bath baby until 14 to 16 weeks of age.) Ears may be cleaned with baby wipes (non-perfumed).

Nails need to be trimmed regularly (don’t forget dew claws – as these don’t wear down naturally).

Use vaseline on puppy’s nose to prevent it drying out. And remember to clean out nose roll with a damp cloth.

Start lead training between 8 to 9 weeks. DON’T OVER EXERCISE WHILE DOG IS STILL GROWING.
